Meryle Bowden’s Taino Village Tapestry
Jamaican artist Meryl Bowden’s Taino Village tapestry was acquired for the Jamaica Hidden Histories exhibition, curated by Lorna Holder in 2015. Here the artist displays in the intricate tapestry work the resourceful and industrious nature of the descendants of the Arawak Indians who settled on the island of Jamaica nearly 1,400 years ago. The tapestry depicts individuals at work, weaving, making ‘bammy’ and fishing.
